That iconic phrase belonged to Dennis Haskins, who immortalized the role of Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell.

Dennis Haskins passed away at age 75. His long-time manager, Jay Schachter, confirmed his passing, sharing heartfelt words about a man who wasn’t just a television staple, but a genuinely warm-hearted human who adored his fans above all else.

More Than Just the Principal of Bayside

Born on November 18, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Haskins built a career spanning over four decades. Before stepping into Bayside High, he appeared in classic television series such as The Dukes of Hazzard, Magnum, P.I., and The Greatest American Hero.

However, it was in 1988 that he first portrayed Richard Belding on Good Morning, Miss Bliss. When the show re-tooled into Saved by the Bell, Haskins remained the anchor of the cast. For over 12 years across multiple iterations—including The College Years and The New Class—he provided the perfect comedic foil to Zack Morris and the gang. He wasn’t just an authoritative figure; Mr. Belding was the rare TV principal who genuinely cared about his students, offering warmth, forgiveness, and grounded authority.

A True Man of the People

Off-camera, Dennis Haskins was renowned for his extraordinary generosity and accessibility. Whether singing karaoke at local spots, greeting fans at minor league baseball games, or popping up at pop-culture conventions, he never shied away from taking a photo or sharing a story.

As his agent Jay Schachter noted:
