Flight of Farewell
Birds sat clamoring in their cage,
sending quiet messages to one another about their upcoming flight.
Untrained hands held anxious doves—
they squirmed, sensing the task ahead.
Though some took the early fall start,
there was an unwritten rule:
When it’s time to fly, they must take their place—and fly together.
They swerved over the tree, forming a spinning arrow.
Then they veered left.
There, they gathered height like a plane—
building force, the roar rising toward the sky.
As they ascended,
you could see their image—
a single soul rising to heaven.
Hours later, after the hush,
as the last visitors began to depart,
another bird family began to sing:
“We’re here.
We’ve come to say goodbye.
All is fine.
Final rest is on its way.”
